The Testicular Cancer Resource Center |
The TCRC ais pleased to offer TC-NET and TC-SUPPORTERS - Two online email support groups designed to make it easy for you to communicate with other survivors, patients, caregivers, and generally anyone who is interested in testicular cancer. Why an email list and not a forum or Facebook group or some other communication method? There is a place for many different options, but I personally feel that an email list is more private, more personal, and more reliable than other methods. Responses are less instantaneous, but they are usually more thoughtful and informative. They are also less likely to be missed.
TC-NET is the primary testicular cancer email support group. The list usually has somewhere
between 600 and 700 subscribers. Many people on the list have been on it for years, but many others
only stay online during the period between diagnosis and the end of treatment. Any topic related to
testicular or extragonadal germ cell tumors is welcome, but this list does tend to be slightly more
medical and treatment related than the other list. On average, the list might generate 5-10 emails a day, often less, but sometimes more.
There are two basic ways to subscribe to TC-NET:
The recommend method for joining the list it to use the web interface located
here.
This interface is simple to use and makes it much easier to configure the list
the way you want it. The default settings are appropriate for most people, but if you
feel that 20-25 emails a day are too much, then change the subscription type to
digest. When digest delivery is enabled, the email list will collect all of the emails
from the group and send them to you in a single message once or twice a day.
You will get a welcome message from TC-NET soon after, confirming your
subscription and telling you about using an email service. Unless you have an ACOR
password, you will have to reply to the confirmation in order to complete the subscription
process.
Please note that you can also use this web interface to change your options or leave the list. However, in order to do this, you will need to remember exactly what email address you entered when you signed on to the list.
If the web interface is unavailable, you can join the list the old fashioned way.

The default is to get email from TC-NET throughout the day, but if you would like to
get the mail in digest form, once you have subscribed send the following email message:
Remember, TC-NET is merely an avenue for what YOU make it...once subscribed, I strongly
encourage you to introduce yourself and your situation! Note that TC-NET is not just about
testicular cancer...we are a unique community, and as such I have no problem with off topic
threads, as long as they don't get out of hand. So subscribe, get involved, and enjoy!

TC-SUPPORTERS is our second testicular cancer email support group. This list was intended to be a place where caregivers could talk apart from the patients. This usually works OK, but since the questions usually fall back into the medical realm, the conversations move over to TC-NET. This list usually has somewhere between 200 and 250 subscribers. Any topic related to testicular or extragonadal germ cell tumors is welcome, but questions and discussions about caring for (or dealing with) TC patients are the primary purpose for this list. In contrast to TC-NET, TC-SUPPORTERS usually only generates 10-15 emails a month. The emails on this list tend to be bursty. In other words, you might get 5 one day and none for two weeks.
